Grafton Underwood is a small, historic village, mentioned in the Doomsday Book and is of late Saxon origin. Formerly owned, in the main, by the Duke of Buccleuch's Boughton Estate, many of the 58 dwellings (2001 Census) are now owned privately. The picturesque village has a stream known as the Alledge Brook with wide grass banks forming the village green, running adjacent to the main thoroughfare. This conservation village has evolved over a typical linear mediaeval plan and within its centre is the Church of St James, parts of which date back to the 12th century. This tranquil village is surrounded by beautiful open countryside and forest with numerous footpaths to the neighbouring villages. The nearby village of Geddington offers a primary school and several public houses. Kettering, approximately 4 miles to the south, has a comprehensive range of shopping and leisure facilities as well as a main line station with a service to London St. Pancras in less than one hour. Access to other major towns is excellent with the A14 dual carriageway linking to the A1 in the east and M1 and M6 to the west.  Renowned schools in the area are at Oundle, Uppingham, Oakham, Stamford and Wellingborough.
